Message from the Managing Editor
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Cyber Insights Magazine, the world’s first publication devoted specifically to informing readers about policy issues related to cybersecurity, privacy, and emerging technologies.
Over the past 20 years, advances in technology and the democratization of connectivity have dramatically altered the human experience; today, people benefit from many Internet-based services that, just one generation ago, would have been considered more likely to be part of a science fiction film than a soon-to-be reality. As a result of the explosive growth of connectivity, however, cybersecurity has emerged as a major challenge, and as an area of growing concern for nations worldwide. Yet, despite the obvious need for clear cybersecurity-related policies on both national and international scales, a shocking dearth of the like remains to this day. Even in the summer of 2021, after many years of significant hacker attacks, for example, there are no clear rules of engagement when it comes to cyberspace, nor does the public in most countries have any clear idea of how its government will respond to cyberattacks leveled against civilian targets.
Likewise, as technology transforms the way humans obtain information and communicate, many existing laws intended to protect civilians from various abuses have been rendered impotent – with few efforts completed or underway to update relevant codes to deal with the realities of the 21st century.
Cyber Insights Magazine, published by the Global Foundation for Cyber Studies and Research, seeks to deliver to readers information that can help lead to the crafting and implementation of such desperately needed policies.
Cyber Insights Magazine will provide policymakers with guidance as to about what issues they should ponder, and various associated positions, concerns, and ideals that they might want to consider. The magazine will address policy-related questions in diverse areas related to cybersecurity, including, but not limited to cyber public policy, cyber economics, cyber global politics, cyber law and legislation, cyber international relations, cyber diplomacy, cyber conflicts and their resolution, cyber peace building, cyber capacity and capability, cyber psychology, cyber nations and culture, cyber industry, and cyber warfare.
Technologists of all levels can also learn from Cyber Insights Magazine – gaining “big picture” perspectives as to how various offerings actually impact people and societies.
I hope that you enjoy reading this issue; please feel free to contact us with comments.
Thank you.
Have a great summer,
Joseph Steinberg
